April 12, 2020 Update
Jesus is risen indeed, Alleluia, Alleluia! You might be wondering if this makes a difference as the world around us may certainly not be reflecting it. We’re still sheltering at home. We’re still uncertain how all of this will turn out and even the weather doesn’t look the greatest for today. All of these things are true, but there is a deeper truth and that is that Jesus' resurrection from the tomb changed everything. Because of Him, there is hope. Hope not just that we will eventually have more freedom outside of our homes. Hope not just that things will take a turn for the better or that the weather might get nicer again. The hope that he brings is a hope in this world, but it is a hope for something more which outside of the this world. Jesus’ resurrection brings the hope of eternal life for us! This hope sustains us in this world recognizing that we are not made for this world, but are made for God. This hope isn’t just for something coming down the pike, at a later time when we can be with God forever. Eternal life starts now in that our lives are different, our world is different because of the Hope of Jesus’ resurrection. It isn’t just the Hope that good can come out of difficult situations, but that life itself can be transformed in the here and now because of Jesus' resurrection.
Brothers and sisters let us see the world around us with resurrection eyes. Let us see beyond COVID-19 and its disruption of our lives. Let us see beyond the clouds in the skies and in the uncertainty of things to come. Let us see that Jesus is here for us. Let us see that He loved us so much that He died that we might be saved and have eternal life. Let us see the hope for life eternal that His resurrection brings. Let us see that this life eternal is happening in the here and now. Let us see the world around us with resurrection eyes.
