COVID-19 (Coronavirus) April 1, 2020 Update
April 1, 2020 Letter
You may have seen this through social media already, but I wanted to let you know about our Holy Week celebrations that begin this weekend with Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion. From a letter from Bishop Siegel (see below) received this week and in light of the continued shelter-in-place executive order from Governor Holcomb, we are suspending the public celebrations of the Holy Week liturgies.
Certainly this is not the news that anyone wants to hear, especially me as your pastor. These liturgies are rich and beautiful and make present to us in a powerful way the central realities of our faith. The suspension of the public celebrations though does not mean that we still won’t celebrate these incredible mysteries of our faith. We will be having the liturgies at their normally scheduled times as listed below and invite you to join us as we live stream them. If you haven’t yet checked out the live stream of the daily & weekend Masses, please do so by going to the homepage of the parish website or clicking here to go to the page itself. There are many other places to view these celebrations both on television and the internet.
We will be sending out another email with ideas on how to celebrate Holy Week at home. There are many great ways that we can make these days special and enter into them even from our own homes. One of these simple ideas is to decorate your front door with green branches this Sunday. It doesn’t have to be palm branches, unless you somehow happen to have some. Maybe it’s a sprig from a bush or something else. We won’t be distributing palms, but this is an external sign of solidarity as we enter into Holy Week. We will have more ideas for you as we move into this holiest of weeks.
Sisters and brothers, as we enter into this Holy Week, separated socially, let us draw nearer to one another spiritually. Let us enter into the mysteries in a new way, maybe like we never have before. We don’t have ball games or meetings to keep us from joining together spiritually each day of the celebrations. Let us make the time in our lives and the place in our hearts for Jesus to be celebrated, worshiped & journeyed with this Holy Week.
