From Debbie Oliver (Parish Business Manager)
Have you ever wondered what it would be like working for a church or even one with a school attached? Five and one half years ago, I was given the opportunity to apply and subsequently be hired by Holy Redeemer - embarking on an adventure that would change my life forever! With over twenty years of experience, the business side of things was covered. My name is Debbie Oliver and I am your business manager.
I thought I knew everything about customer service and working with people…..that is until that first funeral and that first person requesting assistance……... Experience tends to kick in during these times and automatic pilot takes control. However, once finished, I found myself drained – having a new respect for anyone on the desk side of a parish. Phrases like “ministry” and “done out of love” developed new meanings. I realized the Pastor and staff puts in over and above the average work week and is involved in more than one commission or committee. All out of love.
You might think that working in a school you would be surrounded by loud unruly children. Not the case at Holy Redeemer! When encountering any student in the hallway, more often than not I am greeted with a smile, wave, hug or even a fist bump! Pre-School and Pre-K periodically drop by to serenade the staff in song. I have even had super heroes and princesses visit in October! Attending the musicals and art shows is a joy. When the 8th graders graduate, my heart is filled with sadness at their leaving but also with confidence to know they will do well in their adventures in life. All out of love.
God places each of us where He wants us and when He wants us to be there. I perform work I enjoy; am employed where something is happening all the time (literally!) and have interaction with 200+ of the best young people from the ages of 3 to 13. As I look out my door into the courtyard by St. Francis and reflect on these past years, I realize I am truly blessed! All out of love.
